Missing an Assigned Game
If an official misses one or more assigned games that official shall be fined a fee equivalent to 100 percent of the game fee that he/she was to receive for each game missed. The fee will be deducted from the next paycheck. If there is not enough money on the next paycheck, that official shall receive no more game assignments until the fee is paid. A second occurrence in the same season will result in a fine of 100 percent of the game fee for each game missed and no further assignments until corrective action is taken.
This procedure will allow the ice hockey organization to only pay for the official that officiates the game. KIHOA will take the responsibility to compensate the sole official at the game and enforce a monetary penalty to the absent official.
Arriving Late to a Game
Officials should arrive at the rink at least 30 minutes before the start of the game. Officials are required to be at the rink at least 20 minutes before the start of the game. If an official shows up at the rink after a substitute official has already arrived, the late official is ineligible to work that game but will not be fined as he/she did arrive for the game. An official that arrives after a game has started but no substitute has been found will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on several factors including but not limited to weather, history of arriving late, recent game-time change.
Cancelled Games
In the event a game is cancelled, the local hockey organization must contact the scheduler by phone a minimum of 48 hours prior to the start time of the game. If the game cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the start time, the team will be invoiced for 50% of the game fee. This fee is compensation for the officials as they dedicated themselves to that game and missed out on other officiating opportunities. After the team cancellation the scheduler is then required to contact the assigned officials for that game a minimum of 24 hours before the start of the game.
If an official arrives to the rink to officiate a game that has been cancelled, that official is entitled to receive a full game fee for that game unless the scheduler has made an attempt to contact the official at least 24 hours beforehand. Note that even within 24 hours of an assigned cancelled game, the scheduler will attempt to contact the assigned official. No payment is due to any official who has been notified or an attempt has been made to notify them prior to their departure from the rink.
